Powering the 2020 Toyota Avalon is a 3.5-liter V6 DOHC 24-valve D-4S Dual Injection with VVT-iW and VVT-i. This engine delivers up to 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. Paired with the engine is a Direct Shift-8AT 8-speed Electronically Controlled automatic Transmission with intelligence and Sequential Shiftmatic™ Mode. Every trim level is equipped with front-wheel drive. This combination helps the Toyota Avalon get up to 22 city mpg and 32 highway mpg.
The hybrid models are powered by a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve D-4S Dual Injection with VVT-iE, VVT-i with ECO, Normal, Sport, and EV drive modes. This hybrid engine delivers up to 176 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, they have a 650V electric motor that gets up to 118 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. The battery used is a sealed nickel-metal Hydride with 244.8 volts. Unlike the gas powered Avalon models, the hybrid models have an Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission with Sequential Shiftmatic™ Mode.
